Congratulations on your Regional win Alan, how does it feel?

Shock, then numb, then the question - did it really happen?! Surreal! Followed by a nice warm feeling of achievement :) best golfing experience to date.

Tell us about your experience on the day. How do you feel the nerves compared from the 1st to the 3-hole play off?

I was surprised to find I had no nerves on the 1st tee, however, my caddy is a legend, Phil kept me grounded and laughing the whole way around, if I was frustrated with a bad shot he brought me back to the next shot. I knew I needed to get 30 which meant 3 pars on the last 3 holes, when we managed to do that we were surprised to see 30 was lying second. The scoreboard was showing how tough it was so I knew I had a chance of a playoff, that's when the nerves started. The shootout to get into the play off was my favourite distance so I felt good and was glad to make it onto the green and through! Then quickly followed by nerves of laughter as I found myself getting interviewed; apologies I do not remember what I said, I only hope I said the right things! Then standing on the 1st playoff hole I was calm again as Phil was keeping me together. I got off to a great start with my best drive of the day making Par, then a double bogey on the next let the others back in as I found myself one behind. I knew I needed a birdie on the last to force sudden death. No nerves again as I was chasing, a good drive and pitch to 8 feet and a recent putting lesson by my Pro at Wrag Barn (Ian Ridsdale) was to prove invaluable on the day and once more as the putt rolled in.. Birdie!! Sudden death, then winner, Amazing!

Have you played in any other regional Trilby Championships?

No, this was my first one.

How did you cope with the cameras on the day?

I wasn't looking around to see them as a strategy, the first time they were obvious to me was 16, perched behind the green, then 17 and 18. (Parred all 3 so thankfully a good omen for me)

Where is your trophy now?

Pride of place in the Living Room (much to my wife's disappointment!)

Did you ever think, going into the day, that you would not only qualify for the International Grand Final but also be bringing home a Trilby Tour Regional Championship trophy?

My game has been bubbling along nicely.. Ian Ridsdale, Pro at Wrag Barn, has helped my game so much in the last 2 years, we both felt it was coming. I actually picked Isle of Purbeck because it was harder and felt the scores would be lower to qualify and the chances of getting 32 points for me better. Winning wasn't part of the theory but I'm definitely not complaining! It is a stunning course and a true test of golf even without the wind.

Tell us about your background?

Outside of golf, my family and Charlotte, my wife, have been a great support. When we met first she used to ask "are you playing golf at the weekend?". You can image the confusion on my face, I soon helped her ask the right question "what day are you playing golf at the weekend?"! I have 3 kids, my daughter Lauren (18), son Zach (16) playing rugby for Bristol, son Jake (9) who loves golf as much as me and has already had a great start winning competitions. Born in Dublin but family moved to Swindon 7 years ago. Member in Wrag Barn before I even knew where we would live!

How did you find the clothing?

It made me feel good; I had to get the trousers taken in so that's a good sign!

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Golf wise this is it; of course it has to be! Since the win I followed up winning the county championship in the father and son with my 9 year old, his face when we lifted the trophy was amazing!

Describe yourself in a sentence...

Incredibly positive about everything and treat everybody like you want to be treated yourself.

How will you go about defending your Trilby Tour Championship title next year?

Oh without a doubt that is going to happen, I also want to get more friends involved and over from Ireland, try the Twos also.

What's your motto in life?

Absolutely no regrets... and listen to the voice inside your head, there is good experience in there.

Any last words for William Hunt and the Trilby Tour Team?

You guys are legends, it was a fab day, a great tournament and even apart from the golf you were porfessional in doing what you needed to do, polite, chatty and courteous and absolutely hilarious to everyone. Everyone seemed to love being involved. Roll on the 31st August!
