“Absolutely buzzing, it was fantastic. What a way to birdie the last in front of all of the members, friends and family. It doesn't get any better than this! ”

"The Trilby Tour is about re-defining the game of golf and taking it to new heights... and lows. We are the bungee jump of golf... without the safety checks. It's about constantly challenging yourself and becoming greater or worse than you ever thought you could be.
People don't think about golf as an extreme sport but that is precisely what the Trilby Tour is – taking the game and pushing each and every player to their limit.
The Trilby Tour is the only event that offers amateur golfers a truly professional experience. There are no half-measures - the pressure is relentless and it's Winner takes all.
In front of the crowds and cameras there is no place to hide. I can guarantee it will be a day to remember for the rest of your life. Each year we raise the bar of excitement in the amateur golf game. We are looking for excellence from the players but we often see the opposite.
Though the Trilby Tour has grown bigger and bigger each year the ethos remains the same as the day we started: to redefine the game of golf and push players to their limits (upper and lower), we are amateurs after all!"

Peter Ferris

"When I sunk the winning putt I didn't know what to do!"

Age: 42
Occupation: Train Driver
Handicap: 19
Home Club: West Bradford Golf Club
Score: 36
Golf hero: Darren Clarke

Congratulations on your Regional win Peter, how does it feel?

It still hasn't sunk in! I was so shocked when I sunk the winning putt I didn't know what to do, it was all surreal. I just can't believe I put together the round I did under the added pressure of the day.

Tell us about your experience on the day. How do you feel the nerves compared from the 1st to the 3-hole play off?

I was surprised how calm I was throughout the day but especially on the first tee. I just wanted to get that first tee shot away and I hit it pretty well. My caddy, Mark Tyler, is the professional at West Bradford Golf Club and he did a superb job keeping my mind calm and gave me brilliant advice.

Have you played in any other regional Trilby Championships?

No, this was my first one.

How did you cope with the cameras on the day?

I just tried to block them out and concentrate on my game although the cameraman on the 9th green turned out to be a fantastic target to land the ball on green and feed it towards the hole!

Where is your trophy now?

It is on display at my golf club.

Did you ever think, going into the day, that you would not only qualify for the International Grand Final but also be bringing home a Trilby Tour Regional Championship trophy?

My only aim for the day was to get an entry into the Rogues Gallery! I've not been playing overly well so far this year so wasn't expecting to do anything much. I just wanted to enjoy the occasion. I realised something good was happening at 12 when I had 23 points and thought if I kept going I was in with a chance of top 10. A birdie at 15 and bunker save up and down at 16 for net par was a big turning point and it was then that I thought I could post a top 4 score with the wind at my back on 17 & 18. Getting a top 4 playoff place was a great bonus and I went into the playoff thinking I had nothing to lose and just played the holes the same as I did earlier in the day and it paid off!

Tell us about your background?

I've worked on the railways for 26 years, the last 18 years as a train driver and played golf for around 23 years. I started out playing cack handed and initially struggled to get anywhere in the game although I did get my first of my two hole in ones playing left under right! It was only after a short golf lesson whilst on holiday in Thailand from an ex-pat working out there that I started to grip the club correctly and saw a huge difference in how I could play a 'proper' golf shot. After returning to the UK, I booked in some lessons with Mark Tyler at West Bradford and he very quickly got me striking a good ball and in the 2 & 1/2 years I've been having lessons with Mark I've dropped 10 shots off my handicap. He's made a huge difference to my game. I'm lucky that my job gives me a lot of time off so I get to play 2 or 3 times a week. I also have a very tolerant and wonderful wife, Helen, who is a very understanding golf and football widow.

How did you find the clothing?

Being a tubby short bloke, I needed to take up the legs 3 inches and waist taken out an inch. However, the whole outfit was good quality and comfortable to wear. A lot of people who have seen some of my photo's commented on how smart I look.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

By far and away my greatest sporting achievement is winning the 2017 Championship of Yorkshire. Away from the course, qualifying to become a train driver after an arduous 12 month long training course is my greatest achievement.

Describe yourself in a sentence...

I'm a laid back easy going guy who likes the simple things in life.

How will you go about defending your Trilby Tour Championship title next year?

I'll treat everything the same as I did when I won it. I'll concentrate on my own game and not on how those around me are doing. I can only control what I am doing, not how others are doing.

05 YORK FERR PUTT

What's your motto in life?

It you think it, you can do it.

Who is your golf hero?

Darren Clarke, seeing him on the 1st tee of the 2006 Ryder Cup was so emotional and then see him rip one right down the middle of the fairway was a great moment.

Any last words for William Hunt and the Trilby Tour Team?

Firstly to the TT team, thank you for such an amazing, well organised day. From the moment I arrived to register to the moment after the playoff when I was able to sit down and have a beer was superbly organised. Also, a huge thank you to the staff at Kirkbymoorside who put together a cracking course despite the previous 2 days of rain. (A month's worth in 36 hours!)

And a big thank you to William who ten years ago had a dream. A dream to put together a competition for your average amateur golfer played out in nigh on professional conditions. I've watched the Trilby for years on TV and it's got better and better every year. Every year I've said to anyone who'd listen "I'm going to play in that next year" only to then forget about it! Well I wasn't going to miss the 10th year Tour and look at the trouble that has gotten me into!

I can't wait for the Grand Final in Hull, bring it on!!!
